Residents from barangays surrounding Laguna de Bay protest the Laguna Lakeshore Expressway Dike proposed under the Aquino administration. The Public-Private Partnership project poses to build an expressway and dike along and in the lake area.  The expressway starts from Taguig to Los Baños, Laguna to decongest heavy traffic flow in Metro Manila, while the dike is constructed to prevent flooding in the “danger zone” lake.

Community members and fishermen oppose to the project as it gives more benefit and privilege to foreign investors, leaving residents’ concerns neglected. Demolitions have been ongoing, and 3.9 million people, from Pasig, Pateros, Taguig, Muntinlupa, Laguna, and Rizal, are set to be displaced. If the privatization of the Laguna de Bay proceeds, livelihood of fishermen will be threatened as there will be definite prohibition from public utilization of the lake.

Residents, fisherfolk, and groups from different sectors continues to call on the cessation of the project.
