Thousands of women from different sectors and their supporters led by Gabriela, the largest women organization in the Philippines, gathered for a protest at the Bonifacio Shrine in Manila to commemorate International Women’s Day. The group reiterated their call for truth, accountability and justice for the lost lives during the encounter between the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last January 25.

They later on marched to Mendiola near the Malacañang Palace to call for President Benigno Aquino III’s resignation. Gabriela claim that their demand for Aquino’s resignation is not only about the Mamasapano fiasco but everything about his failure as a president for the past 5 years from low wages, price hikes, privatisation of social services, lost lives during disasters due to an ill-prepared government, and letting the U.S. and other foreign countries from stepping on the Philippine’s sovereignty.

The group vowed to hold more and bigger protest to force Aquino to step down from his office. < _MG_2910 _MG_2948 _MG_2953 IMG_2894 IMG_2916 IMG_3115 IMG_9646 IMG_9661 IMG_9701 IMG_9741 IMG_9797 IMG_9831 IMG_9933 Photos by Erika Cruz and Dexter Aserdano
