Rights group and victims of the recently arrested high-profile fugitive Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan trooped to the National Bureau of Investigation in Manila to demand swift delivery of justice for the spate of rights violations perpetrated by Palparan. Karapatan along with victims and their kin call on the Justice Department to make Palparan accountable after his “long overdue arrest.” The retired general has been widely called as “The Butcher” for perpetrating killings, abductions, and several other forms of rights violations in full compliance of Former President Arroyo’s counter-insurgency campaign – Oplan Bantay Laya 1 and 2. Among those killed under Palparan are human rights defenders Eden Marcellana, peasant leader Eddie Gumanoy, UCCP Pastor Edison Lapuz in Leyte, Atty. Feledito Dacut in Tacloban City, and Supreme Bishop Alberto Ramento of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente.
Karapatan also call on all the victims and their kin to come out and press charges against Palparan in court.
